VOTERS APPROVE
BISDÕS $128.6 MILLION BOND PACKAGE
Today, Birdville Independent School District voters approved
a $128.6 million bond package. Superintendent Stephen F. Waddell praised the
efforts of the citizenÕs bond committee for its careful review of the
districtÕs facilities. ÒThe 55-member committee spent six months in intense
study and often, intense debate while coming to consensus,Ó said Waddell. ÒI
want to thank the committee and this great and diverse community that we call
Birdville. It is not a place one finds on a map, but it is very real to its
citizens. It is a place united by a school, a place focused on its children, a
place of pride and loyalty.Ó
Voters approved:
¥ Building replacement campuses at Stowe
and Binion elementaries;
¥ Renovating and expanding locker rooms and adding four-lane tracks at each of
the districtÕs
seven middle schools;
¥ Renovating and expanding Haltom High
School;
¥ Building a replacement campus at
Richland High School; and
¥ Building a new Career and Technology
Center.
With 70 of 71 precincts reporting, 23,284 total voters
turned out with 13,057 voting in favor and 10,227 voting against the bond
package.
With the passage of this bond, the board of trustees has put
into place plans for a citizens oversight committee. This committee will
monitor the progress of the work to assure consistency with the bond program
approved by voters. At least four times a year, the committee will report on
the progress to trustees. In addition to the report to trustees, monthly
reports will be available for review on the districtÕs Web site or through the
communications department.
